This housing enables two photodetector devices to be connected to a single output port of a microscope, via a rectangular diaphragm or other suitable coupling. The input is infinity corrected, and the each output forms an image at unity magnification. Typically the box would be set up with a photomultiplier at 90 degrees to a CCD camera, or with two photomultipliers at 90 degrees to each other.
The single emission connector box requires a dichroic mirror or plate beamsplitter to be fitted to direct light to both output ports. It would normally be supplied with a dichroic mirror mounted on an interchangeable mirror holder, so that different wavelengths of light are sent to the two ports. Alternatively it can be supplied with the mirror fitted on a rotatable mount, which can be swung completely out of the optical path, allowing all the light to be transmitted to the straight through port. This configuration is common where both photometry and fast fluoresence imaging are performed on the same set-up. In this example the dichroic is rotated out of the light path for fluorescence imaging, but replaced for photometry, where the near infra-red spectrum is used to image the region selected for photometry.
For connection of more than two devices we have a triple output version of the housing. If further connections are required we can couple combinations of the connector boxes to achieve almost any configuration required.
