Photomultiplier and Housing
Our recommended photomultiplier for most physiological fluorescent work is the Thorn EMI rubidium bialkalai 9124B end window tube. The photompultipliers supplied with our equipment are now specially selected for enhanced blue response, and low variation in required input voltage. They are mounted and electromagnetically shielded in our own proprietory housing which is extremely compact, and offers the advantage of an integral gating facility. This allows the photomultiplier to be effectively "switched off" instantaneously without the destabilising effect of cutting the high voltage supply.
This is invaluable in preventing saturation of the tube when attempting combined fluorescence / flash photololysis measurements on caged compounds.
